Double D bras — full support, real fit, every band from 30DD up.
A double D bra only works when three things line up: a firm band that carries the weight, cups deep enough to hold the full bust, and the right style for what you're wearing it under. Get those right and a DD bra disappears — no spillage, no riding up, no straps digging in.
This is the complete HauteFlair DD collection, organized by band and by style, with a size calculator and measuring guide so you can shop with confidence. Start with your fit, then choose the style for the occasion.
How do I choose a double D bra?
Choosing a double D bra comes down to three decisions in order: confirm your size (a DD cup means your bust is about 5 inches larger than your underbust; the band number is your underbust rounded to the nearest even inch), get the band right (it carries roughly 80% of a DD bra's support, so a snug, level band matters far more than the straps), and match the style to the occasion (a t-shirt bra under fitted tops, a plunge under low necklines, an encapsulation sports bra for the gym). At a fuller cup like DD, structured cups and a firm band do the heavy lifting — and if the fit is close but not perfect, a sister size dials it in.
DD bra size calculator
Not sure you're a DD, or which band? Enter two measurements and we'll estimate your size instantly, plus the sister sizes worth trying if the fit is close. It's an estimate — brands vary, so always confirm the band fits firm and level first.
Enter your measurements
Use a soft tape measure, level all the way around, in inches over a non-padded bra or bare skin.
This calculator uses the modern (no add-on) band method. For the full walkthrough of measuring, sister sizing and international conversions, see our DD cup size guide.
DD bras by what you need them to do
At a double D, the bra has real weight to carry — so the right style depends on the job. Here's how the most common DD needs map to the style that solves them.
| If you need… | The job to be done | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| An everyday DD bra | Smooth, structured cups that disappear under fitted tops with all-day support | DD T-Shirt & Everyday |
| Support for the gym | Encapsulation cups and a wide band to control movement at a fuller cup | DD Sports Bras |
| Lift for a low neckline | A deep-V plunge that stays hidden while keeping side support | DD Plunge Bras |
| A smoother line under clothes | A minimizer that redistributes volume to reduce projection | DD Minimizers |
| Soft, wireless comfort | A structured DD bralette with a real band and defined cups | DD Bralettes |
| Something sheer or sexy | Sheer and lace cups backed by a structured frame and working underwire | Sheer & Sexy DD |
| A full-figure / plus DD | Wider bands and reinforced construction for 42DD–48DD and up | Full-Figure DD |
DD bra styles compared
Seven core styles cover almost everything you'd want in a double D. Each has a clear best-use case — use this to skip the guesswork, then tap to shop.
| Style | Best For | Support | Coverage | Wire |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| T-Shirt | Everyday wear under fitted tops | Moderate–high | Full, seamless | Usually wired |
| Balconette | Lift with a low, square neckline | Moderate–high | Lower, open top | Wired |
| Plunge | Low-cut and V-neck tops | Moderate–high | Deep V center | Wired |
| Strapless | Off-shoulder looks (firm band essential) | Moderate | Band-led, no straps | Usually wired |
| Sports | Exercise and high movement | High | Full, encapsulation | Varies |
| Bralette | Soft, low-key days (structured only) | Light–moderate | Soft, full | Often wired/banded |

Find your DD bra in 10 seconds
Pick the card that matches what you actually want — the fastest way to land on a double D bra you'll reach for again.
A smooth, structured DD t-shirt bra in a neutral is the workhorse of the drawer. Seamless cups disappear under fitted tops, the band gives real all-day support, and it pairs with the widest range of outfits.
Shop DD Everyday →At a DD, encapsulation beats compression — structured cups hold each side individually while a wide firm band controls bounce. The right DD sports bra protects comfort through running and high-impact training.
Shop DD Sports →A structured DD bralette gives you a wireless, low-key option without losing support — look for a real elastic band, defined cups and often light wiring. Unstructured triangle styles won't hold a double D.
Shop DD Bralettes →A DD plunge drops low in the center so it stays hidden under V-necks and wrap tops, while keeping side support and lift. Balconettes do the same for wide and square necklines.
Shop DD Plunge →Support and allure aren't mutually exclusive at DD. Sheer and lace cups backed by a structured frame, powermesh wings and a working underwire give the look without giving up support — a HauteFlair specialty.
Shop Sheer & Sexy DD →For 42DD through 48DD and beyond, full-figure construction adds wider bands, reinforced wings and deeper cups that spread weight and keep straps from digging — serious, all-day support at a fuller band.
Shop Full-Figure DD →How to measure for a DD bra
Two measurements, a soft tape and a mirror confirm whether you're a double D and which band. Band size comes from your underbust; the DD cup comes from a roughly 5-inch difference between bust and underbust.

- Measure your band (underbust). Wrap the tape snugly around your ribcage directly under the bust, level all the way around. Round to the nearest even inch — this is your band (the 34 in 34DD).
- Measure your bust. Keep the tape loose and level across the fullest part of the bust. Don't compress — let it sit naturally.
- Confirm the DD. Subtract band from bust. A difference of about 5 inches is a DD cup (4″ = D, 5″ = DD, 6″ = DDD). Pair it with your band, e.g. 34DD.
- Check the fit. Try the band on the loosest hook first — firm and level, not riding up. The cup should fully contain the bust with no spillover or gaping.
Band and cup move together. If your size feels close but not perfect, try a sister size — a 34DD shares its cup volume with a 32DDD and a 36D. Our full DD cup size guide covers measuring, sister sizing and international conversions in depth.

01Best DD bra styles, explainedT-shirt · Balconette · Plunge · Strapless · Sports · Bralette
Every DD style exists to solve a specific problem. The common thread at a fuller cup is real band support and enough cup depth — get those and any style works.
DD t-shirt & full-coverage
The everyday workhorse. Smooth, structured cups stay invisible under fitted tops while the band carries all-day support. The default DD bra to build a drawer around. Shop DD bras.
DD balconette & plunge
A balconette sits lower and more open for lift under wide or square necklines. A plunge drops low in the center for V-necks and wrap tops while keeping side support — both graded for fuller cups so the structure holds.
DD strapless
The hardest category at DD, because the band does 100% of the work. Lean on a firm, gripping band (sister-size down one band as a starting point) and structured cups with silicone edges to stay in place.
DD sports bras
At a double D, choose encapsulation over compression — structured cups that hold each side individually, a wide firm band and adjustable straps. Compression-only styles flatten without controlling movement. See DD sports bras.
DD bralettes & minimizers
A DD bralette has to be the structured kind — real band, defined cups, often light wiring. A minimizer redistributes volume for a smoother line under shirts. Both work at DD when built specifically for fuller cups.
02DD sizing & sister sizesBand · Cup · The 5-inch rule · Sister sizing
A DD bra size is a band number plus the DD cup — 32DD, 34DD, 36DD and up. Both parts have to be right for the bra to fit.
What DD means
The band is your underbust rounded to the nearest even inch. The DD cup means your bust is about 5 inches larger than your underbust (4″ = D, 5″ = DD, 6″ = DDD/E). Use the calculator above to confirm.
Why sister sizing matters at DD
Cup volume scales with the band, so the same DD label holds different volume on different bands. If your band feels too tight but the cup fits, go up a band and down a cup (34DD → 36D). If the band's loose but the cup's right, go down a band and up a cup (34DD → 32DDD). Those are your sister sizes.
Signs your DD size is off
- Band rides up the back: band too loose — the #1 DD issue. Size down a band, up a cup.
- Spillover at the top or sides: cup too small — you may be a DDD/E.
- Gaping cups: cup too big — you may be a D.
- Straps dig: usually a loose band first, straps second.

03DD fit signals that separate good from greatThe band · The cups · The straps · The center gore
A well-fitting DD bra is one you stop noticing. Four checkpoints tell you whether it fits — run through them every time.
The band does most of the work
Around 80% of a DD bra's support comes from the band. It should sit firm and level, parallel to the floor, on the loosest hook when new. If it rides up, it's too loose — and at DD that shows up fast as shoulder strain.
The cups should contain, not compress
The bust should sit fully inside the cup with no spillover and no gaping. The underwire should encircle the breast and lie flat on the ribcage, not on tissue.
Straps support, don't strain
You should fit two fingers under each strap. Deep strap marks mean the band's too loose and the straps are overcompensating — fix the band first.
The center should lie flat
On a wired DD bra, the center gore should tack flat against your sternum. If it floats off the body, the cup is usually too small.
04Care & longevityWash · Dry · Rotate · Replace
DD bras work harder, so caring for them well keeps support and fit intact far longer.
Best practices
- Hand wash when you can. Cool water and mild detergent are kindest to elastic and wire. Machine wash on delicate, hooks fastened, in a lingerie bag.
- Never put bras in the dryer. Heat destroys elastic faster than anything. Air dry flat or hang; don't wring molded cups.
- Skip fabric softener. It coats and breaks down elastic over time.
- Rotate, don't repeat. Rest each bra a day between wears so the band can recover — especially important at DD.
- Store cups nested. Don't fold one molded cup into the other; it warps the shape.
Double D bras: frequently asked questions
The most useful DD-specific questions, answered with a fitter's depth. Tap any question to expand.
01What is a DD bra?
A DD bra (also written double D) is a bra made for a DD cup — a cup size where your bust measures about 5 inches larger than your underbust. Combined with the band number it produces sizes like 32DD, 34DD and 36DD. A good DD bra prioritizes a firm, supportive band, cups deep enough to fully contain the bust, and an underwire (or structured cup) that encloses without digging.
02How do I know if I'm a DD?
Measure your underbust (snug, just under the bust) and your bust (loose, across the fullest point), then subtract. A difference of about 5 inches is a DD cup. Use the calculator above to confirm, or read the full DD cup size guide.
03What's the best DD bra for everyday wear?
For most people, a structured DD t-shirt or full-coverage bra with a firm band and smooth cups is the best everyday choice — it disappears under fitted tops and supports all day. The right everyday DD bra depends on your band and daily activity, but band support and cup depth matter most at a fuller cup.
04What's the best sports bra for a DD?
An encapsulation sports bra that holds each breast in its own structured cup, with a wide firm band and adjustable straps. Compression-only styles flatten the bust against the chest and rarely control DD movement during high-impact activity. Browse DD sports bras built for encapsulation support.
05Are there bralettes for a DD?
Yes — but a DD bralette has to be a structured one, with a real elastic band, defined cups and often light wiring or wider straps, all graded for fuller cups. Unstructured triangle bralettes won't support or contain a double D. A well-built DD bralette gives you a soft, wireless option without giving up support.
06How should a double D bra fit?
The band sits firm and level on the loosest hook and carries most of the support; the cups fully contain the bust with no spillover or gaping; the underwire encloses the breast without digging; and the straps stay put without leaving deep marks. If the band rides up it's too loose, if you spill over the cup is too small, and if cups gape the cup is too big.
07What are the sister sizes for a 34DD?
A 34DD shares its cup volume with a 32DDD (one band down, one cup up) and a 36D (one band up, one cup down). Use a sister size when the cup fits but the band is slightly too tight or too loose, or when your usual size is out of stock.
08What bra size comes after DD?
DDD comes after DD (many brands label it E), then F and beyond. If a DD band fits but the cups overflow, try DDD/E in the same band. The difference is one cup — about a 6-inch versus 5-inch bust-to-band difference.
09What's the difference between a D and a DD bra?
A D bra is built for a 4-inch bust-to-band difference; a DD is built for about 5 inches — one cup larger. If a D cup spills over but the band fits, size up to DD in the same band. For the full comparison, see the DD cup size guide.
10Do you carry plus-size DD bras like 46DD and 48DD?
Yes — the HauteFlair DD collection runs through the larger bands with full-figure construction: wider bands, reinforced wings and deeper cups that spread weight and keep straps from digging. Filter to your band to see what's available in 42DD, 44DD, 46DD and 48DD.
11Does HauteFlair carry sexy or sheer DD bras?
Yes — sheer, lace and statement DD bras are a HauteFlair specialty. The key at a double D is construction: sheer cups backed by a structured frame, powermesh wings for side support, and a working underwire under the lace. That gives a sexy, sheer look with the support a fuller cup needs — something most mainstream brands don't grade for DD.
12Where can I buy DD bras?
Right here — the HauteFlair DD collection covers 30DD through 48DD across t-shirt, balconette, plunge, strapless, sports, bralette and sheer styles, with discreet U.S. shipping. Confirm your size with the calculator, then shop by band or by style above.
