How a 28D should fit

The band does around 80% of the work. Fastened on the loosest hook, a 28D band should sit level around your ribcage and stay put when you raise your arms — if it rides up your back, the band is too big regardless of how the cup feels.

28D pairs a 28-inch band with a D cup, which works out at about a 4-inch gap between underbust and bust. Sizing varies more between brands than most people expect, which is why two bras both marked 28D can fit quite differently.

How a 28D should fit

Check the wire before anything else: on a 28D it should encircle your breast tissue completely, sit flat against your ribs, and rest behind the breast rather than on it. Wire sitting on tissue almost always means the cup is too small.

Best 28D styles

Moulded t-shirt bras give the smoothest line under fitted clothing at 28D. Balconette shapes suit a fuller bottom half of the breast, plunge styles work under lower necklines, and stretch-lace cups will forgive more day-to-day variation than a moulded cup will.
