A DD cup describes the difference between your underbust and your bust measurement — roughly 5 inches — not an absolute volume. A 32DD and a 42DD hold very different amounts, which is why the band number matters as much as the letter, and why two people in the same cup can need completely different bras.

Fitting a DD cup

The band does around 80% of the work. Whatever your band, the wire should encircle your breast tissue completely and rest against your ribs behind the breast, not on it. Wire sitting on tissue almost always means the cup is too small.

Moulded t-shirt bras give the smoothest line under fitted clothing. Balconette suits a fuller bottom half, plunge works under lower necklines, and stretch-lace cups forgive more day-to-day variation than moulded ones.
