Length. Standard camis hit at the hip; long camisoles run 2–5 inches longer — buy those if you want full tuck coverage or you're tall. Neckline. A V-neck elongates and disappears under V-neck knits; a scoop or square neck covers more and reads cleaner as a standalone. Straps. Adjustable straps are worth the small premium — they set the bust height and stop gaping. Fit. A layering cami should skim, not compress; if you want it to smooth, look at shaping tanks rather than sizing down.
03Built-in bra: shelf vs cups+
A shelf bra is a second layer of fabric sewn inside the cami, sometimes with an elastic band under the bust — light shaping and modesty, good for A–C cups, lounging and sleep, but not a substitute for a real bra if you need lift. A built-in bra with cups adds molded or removable padding and a proper underband, giving real support — the better pick if you're a D cup or above and want to wear the cami on its own. Full-busted? A cami with adjustable straps and a wider band sits better than spaghetti straps with no structure; when you need genuine support, layer over a wire-free bra or bralette.
04Care & longevity+
