Plus Size Bra and Panty Sets

(33 products)

A matched set asks one size label to fit two different measurements. A bra is fitted from the ribcage and bust, a panty from the hip, and those numbers move independently. Decide which piece matters more, size to that one, and check the chart for the other.

Plus size bra and panty sets, matched at one size, 1X to 3X

Thirty-seven matched sets in lace, stretch mesh, sheer mesh, fishnet, satin and leather-look vinyl, from about $26 to $84. Most are two-piece. Six are three-piece, where the third item is a garter belt.

A matched set asks you to buy two garments at one number, and your bra size and your panty size are set by different measurements. That is the whole difficulty with sets, and it is worth knowing before you order.

For babydoll, teddy and bustier sets as well, see the wider plus size lingerie sets.

Quick answer

A set makes one number do two jobs, and that is why one piece usually disappoints

Your bra size comes from your ribcage and your bust. Your panty size comes from your hip. Those two measurements are independent, which is why two people who both wear a 38DD can need different panty sizes. A matched set has one label for both pieces, so it is fitting two different parts of you off a single number. The practical rule: decide which piece matters more to you, size to that one, and check the chart for the other. If your bra size and your panty size sit far apart, buying the two separately and matching them yourself by color will fit better than any set, even though it is more work.

How much structure each kind of set actually has

Most sets on this page are unlined. That is normal for lingerie and it surprises people who are used to buying bras, so here is what is really in the catalog.

Construction How common here What it does Suits
Unlined soft cup Most of the collection No wire, no padding. Shape comes from the cut and the stretch of the fabric. Smaller cup sizes, and anyone who wants comfort over lift
Underwire Two styles A wire under the cup gives real separation and lift, the only pieces here that do Larger cup sizes wanting a set that holds
Padded One style Foam or fiberfill without wire. Smooths and adds a little shape. Wanting an even line under the set
Bralette Two colorways Fully unlined and usually the most comfortable thing on the page Lounging, and the lowest price point here
Open cup One style The cup is cut away by design. No coverage and no support. Wearing it to be seen, not to be worn out

Two-piece, three-piece, and what is in the bag

The piece count is on the product page, but what the third piece actually is catches people out.

Format What arrives Also needed Price here
Two-piece A bra and a matching panty Nothing About $26 to $78
Three-piece Bra, panty and a garter belt Thigh highs or stockings, sold separately About $55 to $84
Bralette set An unlined bralette and a panty Nothing From about $26
Bustier set A longline boned top and a panty Nothing About $55

Which set to pick

Six ways people arrive at this page, and where each one should go.

Your bra size and panty size are far apart

No set will fit both well, because a set has one label for two measurements. Buying a bra and a panty separately and matching by color fits better and costs about the same.

You want the set to actually hold

Two underwire styles are in stock and they are the only pieces here with real lift. Everything else is unlined or lightly padded.

Shop underwire sets

You want comfort over shape

A bralette set is fully unlined, the cheapest thing on this page and the most likely to be worn more than once. Start here if it is your first set.

Shop plus size bralettes

You are buying a three-piece

The third piece is a garter belt, not stockings. The clips need something to clip to, so plan thigh highs as a separate buy or it will not look like the photo.

Shop thigh highs

You want more than a bra on top

Babydoll, teddy, bustier and cami sets all swap the bra for something else. They sit on the wider lingerie sets page alongside these.

Shop plus size lingerie sets

You only need the panty

If a set you liked is sold out in your size, the panty on its own is often the easier buy, and plus size panties are graded on hip alone rather than on two measurements at once.

Shop plus size panties

A bra is fitted to two measurements and a panty to one, and a matched set asks a single size label to satisfy all three. Nothing is wrong with the garment when one half disappoints. The set was never going to fit both halves of you equally, and knowing which half you sized for is the whole trick.

The HauteFlair Standard

How to choose a plus size bra and panty set

Five things worth settling, in the order they matter.

01   Decide which half you are sizing for

This is the decision that makes the rest easy. A bra is fitted from your ribcage and your bust, a panty from your hip, and those numbers move independently. A set has one label for both, so it cannot serve both equally unless you happen to sit in the same place on each scale. Pick the piece that matters more to you, size to that one against the maker's chart, and accept that the other will be approximately right. If both matter equally and your sizes are far apart, buy them separately.

02   Assume unlined unless it says otherwise

Most sets on this page have no wire and no padding. Shape comes from the cut and from how the mesh or lace stretches. That is normal for lingerie and it catches out anyone who is used to buying bras, where structure is the default. Two underwire styles and one padded style are in stock, and they are the exceptions. If you want a set that lifts rather than one that looks good lying flat, the product title will tell you, and most of the time it will not say underwire.

03   Count the pieces and work out what is missing

A two-piece is a bra and a panty and needs nothing else. A three-piece adds a garter belt, which arrives with working clips and nothing to clip to. If the photo shows stockings, those are styling, not contents. Six three-piece styles are stocked here, so if the look you are buying includes legwear, add thigh highs to the order or the set will not resemble the photograph when it arrives.

04   Match the fabric to how long you will wear it

Lace and stretch mesh are the most forgiving and the most wearable, which is why they make up most of the collection. Satin has the least give and shows every line underneath. Fishnet stretches freely but snags on rings and nails. Leather-look vinyl does not breathe at all and is built for an hour, not an evening. If you want something that will be worn repeatedly rather than once, the fabric decides that more than the style does.

05   Check the band before anything else when it arrives

The band is where a set fails first. It should sit level all the way round and stay level when you raise your arms. If it rides up at the back, the set is too big through the ribcage no matter how the cups look, and no amount of strap adjustment fixes it. After the band, check that lace lies flat at the cup edge rather than gaping or straining, and that the panty leg opening does not cut in. Those three checks take a minute and tell you whether to keep it.

Questions

Why is it hard to find a bra and panty set that fits?

Because a set makes you buy two garments at one number. Your bra size and your panty size are set by different measurements that do not move together: a bra is decided by your ribcage and your bust, a panty by your hip. Two people who both wear a 38DD can need different panty sizes, and the set has one label for both. That is the structural problem with matched sets, and it is why the piece that disappoints is usually the one you did not size for.

What size should I order in a plus size bra and panty set?

Size to whichever piece matters more to you, then check the maker's chart for the other. If the bra is the point, size to your band and bust measurement against the chart. If you care most about the panty sitting right, size to your hip. These sets are sold in 1X, 2X and 3X rather than band-and-cup, so the chart is the only reliable guide and it differs between makers.

Do these sets have underwire?

A few do and most do not. In this collection the underwire styles are the Charmaine lace mesh set and the Salma satin three-piece. The Jennie set is padded without wire. The Rochelle styles are unlined bralette sets. Everything else is soft-cup mesh or lace with no wire and no padding. If structure matters to you, read the title and the description rather than assuming, because unlined is the default here.

What is the difference between a two-piece and a three-piece set?

A two-piece is a bra and a matching panty. A three-piece adds a garter belt as the third item. It does not add stockings, which is the most common misunderstanding: the garter belt arrives with clips and nothing to clip to, so thigh highs are a separate purchase. The three-piece styles here are Everly, Quinn, Violette, Kaliana, Salma and the Oh La La Cheri vinyl set.

Do bra and panty sets come in bra sizes like 38DD?

Not in this collection. Every set here is sold in 1X, 2X and 3X, or in a combined range like 1X/2X. None use band-and-cup sizing. That means the bra is graded like apparel, with the fit coming from stretch rather than from a cup drafted for a specific volume, so it will not hold the way a fitted bra does. If you want support, buy a bra. If you want a matched set, buy the set and expect it to look better than it holds.

Do you carry plus size bra and panty sets in 4X?

Not at the moment. The live range stops at 3X, with some styles offered as a combined 1X/2X. Several archived styles did run to 4X, so it has been stocked before and may return. The size run on each product page is the thing to check, since it varies by maker and by style.

How should a plus size bra and panty set fit?

The band should sit level all the way round without riding up at the back, which is where most sets fail first. Straps should sit on the shoulder without digging. Lace and mesh should lie flat rather than gaping at the edge or straining across it. On the panty, the leg opening should not cut in. Because these are apparel-sized and mostly unlined, there is no cup volume to select, so a poor fit usually shows as gaping rather than as spilling over.

What are the sets made from?

Lace and stretch mesh make up most of the collection, with some sheer mesh, fishnet, satin and leather-look vinyl. Lace and stretch mesh are the most forgiving because they move with you and recover. Satin has the least give and shows the most. Vinyl does not breathe at all and is built for an hour rather than an evening.

Can I wear a bra and panty set under clothes?

The plain lace and mesh sets, yes, within reason. They are more delicate than everyday underwear and offer less support, but a smooth soft-cup set works under loose clothing. Strappy, open-cup, sheer and vinyl styles are designed to be seen rather than worn under a shirt, and the straps and hardware will show through most fabrics.

How do I wash a bra and panty set?

Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent and lay flat to dry. Heat destroys the elastic in both pieces and dulls lace permanently, so no dryer and no hot water. Fasten the hooks before washing so they do not catch the lace, and wash dark or red sets on their own the first time, because dye transfer onto a nude or pale piece does not come out. Vinyl should be wiped clean rather than washed.

What is the difference between this and the lingerie sets collection?

This page is specifically the matched bra and panty, two pieces or three with a garter belt. The lingerie sets collection is wider and also includes babydoll sets, teddy sets, bustier sets and cami sets, where the top half is not a bra at all. If you want the matched bra and panty specifically, this is the narrower page. If you are open to other shapes, start from the wider one.

Which set should I buy first?

A soft-cup set in lace or stretch mesh, in a single size rather than a combined one, in a color you already wear. It is the most forgiving to size, the easiest to wear, and the one most likely to come out of the drawer again. Strappy, open-cup and vinyl styles are better once you know how a particular maker's sizing runs on you.

Are the sets sold as a set or as separate pieces?

As a set, at one price, in one size. You cannot order the bra in one size and the panty in another, which is the trade-off that comes with buying matched. If your bra size and panty size are far apart, buying a bra and a panty separately and matching them yourself by color will fit better than any set will, even though it takes more work.

Buy it matched, or buy it to fit

Thirty-seven plus size bra and panty sets in lace, mesh, satin and vinyl, sized 1X to 3X. If your two sizes sit far apart, the separates will fit you better and they are one click away.

Piece counts, sizes, construction and prices described here reflect the styles stocked at the time of writing and change as the collection changes. Always check the size run, piece count and fiber content on the individual product page before ordering, since these sets are graded as apparel rather than in band and cup sizing and the grading varies between makers.
