How a 42E should fit

At E cup the band needs to be firm, not merely snug. A 42E should fasten on the loosest hook with about two fingers' resistance, leaving room to tighten as the elastic relaxes over six to nine months of wear.

A 42E means a 42-inch band with a E cup — roughly a 6-inch difference between your underbust and your bust measurement. Cup letters are not consistent between markets: UK-sized brands like Panache run a different ladder to US labels, so your 42E may sit a letter along depending on who made it.

How a 42E should fit

Support at 42E comes from structure rather than tightness. Look for a band with three or four hooks, wider side wings to stop the cup pulling forward, and cups seamed in sections rather than moulded from a single piece.

Full-coverage and balconette shapes are the most reliable at 42E. If you want something under a t-shirt, choose a moulded cup with a seam beneath the bust rather than a completely smooth one. For sport, an encapsulation bra that supports each breast separately will beat a compression style at this size.
