Panache Swimwear: Swim That Fits Like Your Bra
Almost all swimwear is sold in dress sizes, which holds up until you need a D cup or more. At that point a size 14 top gives you fabric and no structure: the band rides, the cup gapes, and nothing is actually carrying any weight.
Panache Swim is built the other way round. The tops are bra-sized, on the same underwired, three-part cup frames as Panache bras, in UK cups D to K and bands 30 to 42. A 34F swim top supports like a 34F bra because it is engineered like one.
What is Panache swimwear?
Panache swimwear (sold as Panache Swim) is swimwear cut in bra sizes rather than dress sizes. Bikini tops, tankini tops and one-piece swimsuits are built on the brand's underwired, three-part cup construction in UK cups D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, J, JJ and K, on bands 30 to 42. Tops and bottoms are sold separately, so you take your bra size on top and your usual size (XS to 3XL) below. It is the same company and the same cup frames as Panache bras, which is why your bra size translates directly.
Panache swim by shape
Thirteen of the styles here are bra-sized on top. The bottoms and the swim skirt run in standard sizing, so you mix freely.
| Shape | How it is sized | Best for | Shop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balconnet bikini top | Band + cup, D to K | Lift and a rounded shape in the biggest cups | Bikini tops |
| Bandeau bikini top | Band + cup, D to H | A clean neckline that still has a wire under it | Bandeau |
| Tankini top | Band + cup, D to J | Covering the midriff without losing bra support | Tankinis |
| One-piece swimsuit | Band + cup, D to K | One garment, full bra structure built in | One-piece |
| Bikini bottoms | XS to 3XL | Classic, folded, gathered and skirted cuts | Bottoms |
| Swim skirt | S to XXL | More coverage over the hip and upper thigh | Swim dresses |
UK cups to US cups
Panache is a British brand and HauteFlair lists it in UK cup letters, the same way the bras are listed. Above a D cup the two systems stop agreeing, so this is the conversion you need.
| UK cup (as listed) | US equivalent | Cup sizes above a B |
|---|---|---|
| D | D | 2 |
| DD | DD / E | 3 |
| E | DDD / F | 4 |
| F | G | 5 |
| FF | H | 6 |
| G | I | 7 |
| GG | J | 8 |
| H | K | 9 |
| HH | L | 10 |
| J | M | 11 |
| JJ | N | 12 |
| K | O | 13 |
The short version: if you already wear Panache bras, order the same letter you always order. If you are coming from a US-sized brand, count cups up from B rather than matching letters.

Nothing holds a full bust
Full-cup balconnet tops run to a K cup on an underwire, with three-part cups doing the lifting instead of a halter strap.
Shop bikini tops →A bandeau that stays put
A wired, cup-sized bandeau gives you the clean neckline without the slide that makes most bandeaus unwearable over a D cup.
Shop bandeau →More coverage on top
Tankini tops keep the bra frame and add a body, so the midriff is covered and the support is unchanged.
Shop tankinis →One piece, done
Bra-sized one-piece swimsuits in D to K, with the cups and wires built in rather than a shelf of elastic.
Shop one-piece →Top and bottom disagree
Because the pieces sell separately, a 34G top can sit with an XS bottom. Classic, folded, gathered and skirted cuts all run XS to 3XL.
Shop bottoms →Band 40 and up
Several styles reach a 42 band, and the bottoms go to 3XL, so the range carries properly into plus sizing.
Shop plus size →A swim top is a bra that gets wet. Judge it the way you judge a bra: does the band sit level and firm, and is the cup holding anything?
The HauteFlair StandardThe complete Panache swim guide
Why bra-sized swim works, the real size range, how to pick your size, choosing a shape, and making it last a second summer.
01Why bra-sized swim works when dress-sized does not+
A dress-sized swim top has one measurement to work with, so it scales the whole garment at once. Go up a size and you get a wider band, a wider cup and a longer strap together, whether or not that is the combination you needed. For a B cup the compromise is invisible. For an F cup it is the whole problem: you buy up until the cup is deep enough, and by then the band is too loose to anchor anything, so the straps take the load and dig in.
Bra sizing splits those two measurements. The band is fitted to your ribcage and the cup to your volume, independently, which is the only way to get a firm underband and a full cup at the same time. Panache then builds the top the way it builds a bra: a wire following the root of the breast, a three-part cup with seams that direct volume forward and up rather than sideways, and side panels tall enough to stop spill. The straps become adjusters rather than the support system.
That is the reason this collection reads as a bra range that happens to be waterproof. The engineering is the same, and so is the size on the label.
02The real size range, and what UK letters mean+
Across the styles on this page, the bra-sized tops and swimsuits cover bands 30 to 42 and cups D to K in UK letters, which run in this order:
- D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, J, JJ, K
Note where the doubled letters fall. UK sizing inserts DD between D and E, FF between F and G, GG between G and H, and so on, which is why UK and US letters drift apart as the cups get bigger. A UK F is a US G. A UK G is a US I. A UK K, the largest cup here, is a US O. Count cups up from a B rather than matching letters and you will not go wrong. The conversion table above has all twelve.
The bottoms and the swim skirt are not bra-sized. Bottoms run XS to 3XL and the skirt runs S to XXL, and because every piece is sold on its own you are never forced into a set that fits in one place and not the other.
If your band is above a 42 or you want the size axis rather than the brand axis, start from plus size swimwear instead.
03Picking your size (it is your bra size, with one caveat)+
Start with your Panache bra size. If you wear a 34F in Panache lingerie, order a 34F swim top. The cup frames are shared, so the starting point is exact rather than approximate.
The caveat is water. Swim fabric has more stretch than lingerie fabric, and it relaxes further once it is wet. A top that fits perfectly dry in the shop will be slightly looser in the sea. So if you sit between two sizes, or if your band is at the loose end of comfortable, take the smaller band. It should feel firm when new, on the loosest hook, with room to tighten later as the elastic settles.
Sister sizing still applies. If a 34F band is too tight, 36E gives you the same cup volume on a wider band. If a 34F cup is too small but the band is right, 34FF is the next cup up. The relationship works exactly as it does in bras.
Coming from a US brand? Convert the cup before you order, using the table above. Matching the letter instead of converting it is the single most common mistake with British swimwear, and it is usually two or three cups wrong.
04Bikini, tankini or one-piece+
All three are built on the same cup, so the choice is about coverage and about how you want to buy, not about support.
- Bikini top: the most size flexibility, since you pick the top and the bottom separately. Balconnet shapes go highest in the cup range, to a K. Bikini tops.
- Bandeau: a bikini top with the strap axis changed, for a clean neckline. Wired and cup-sized, so it behaves unlike a standard bandeau. Bandeau bikinis.
- Tankini top: the same bra frame with a body attached. Covers the midriff, still pairs with any bottom, and is the easy answer if you want coverage without committing to a swimsuit. Tankinis.
- One-piece: one garment, one size to get right, full structure built in. Less flexible if your top and bottom sizes are far apart. One-piece swimsuits.
- Swim skirt or swim dress: the most coverage over hip and thigh, worn with a bra-sized top. Swim dresses.
For an active holiday, the same logic that makes a sports bra worth owning applies here: the more the garment holds, the less you notice it.
05Chlorine, salt, and getting a second summer out of it+
Swimwear dies from chemistry and heat, not from wear. Chlorine and salt both attack elastane, and in a bra-sized top the elastane is doing structural work, so when it goes you lose the fit rather than just the look.
Rinse in cool fresh water as soon as you are out, before anything dries. That one habit does more than any detergent. Hand wash in cool water with a mild wash, then press the water out between a towel rather than wringing, which is what distorts a wired cup.
Dry flat, out of direct sun, and never on a radiator or in a dryer. Heat is what breaks elastane down fastest. Do not hang a wet top by its straps either: the weight of the water stretches them permanently.
Store cups nested, not folded, exactly as you would a moulded bra, and keep a second top in rotation if you swim often. Two tops worn alternately last considerably longer than one worn daily, because the elastane gets time to recover between wears.
Panache swimwear FAQ
The questions shoppers ask most, answered straight.
What is Panache swimwear?
Panache swimwear, sold as Panache Swim, is swimwear cut in bra sizes rather than dress sizes. Bikini tops, tankini tops and one-piece swimsuits are built on the brand's underwired, three-part cup construction in UK cups D to K on bands 30 to 42. Tops and bottoms are sold separately, so you take your bra size on top and your usual size below.
What sizes does Panache swimwear come in?
The bra-sized tops and swimsuits run bands 30 to 42 in UK cups D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH, J, JJ and K. The bikini bottoms are sized XS to 3XL and the swim skirt runs S to XXL. Every piece is sold separately, so your top size and bottom size do not have to match.
Is Panache swimwear true to bra size?
Yes. Panache Swim uses the same cup frames as Panache bras, so if you wear a 34F in Panache lingerie you order a 34F swim top. The one adjustment: swim fabric stretches more than lingerie fabric and relaxes when wet, so if you are between sizes, take the smaller band.
What is a UK F cup in US sizing?
A UK F cup is a US G. UK sizing inserts doubled letters, DD between D and E and FF between F and G, so the two systems drift apart above a D cup. A UK G is a US I, a UK H is a US K and a UK K is a US O. Count cups up from a B rather than matching letters.
Does Panache make swimwear with underwire?
Yes. The bra-sized tops and swimsuits are underwired, with the wire following the root of the breast and a three-part cup above it, the same construction Panache uses in its bras. That is what lets the band and cup carry the weight instead of the straps.
Can I buy Panache swim tops and bottoms separately?
Yes, and across most of the range that is the only way it is sold. Tops are bra-sized and bottoms are sized XS to 3XL, so a 34G top can be paired with whichever bottom actually fits you rather than the one that came in the set.
What is the biggest cup size Panache swimwear comes in?
A UK K cup, which is a US O. The full-cup balconnet bikini top and the balconnet one-piece swimsuit both reach it. Several other styles stop at a J, and the widest band in the range is a 42.
Does Panache make plus size swimwear?
The range carries into plus sizing: bands reach 42, cups reach K and the bottoms go to 3XL. If your band is above a 42, or you want to shop by size rather than by brand, start from the plus size swimwear collection instead.
What is the difference between a Panache bikini top and a tankini top?
Only the coverage. Both are built on the same underwired, bra-sized cup. A tankini top adds a body below the cup to cover the midriff, and still pairs with any bottom you like. Support is identical, so pick on coverage alone.
Does Panache make one-piece swimsuits in bra sizes?
Yes. The one-piece swimsuits here are sized by band and cup, D to K, with the wires and cups built into the suit rather than a shelf of elastic sewn inside. The trade-off against a bikini is flexibility: one garment means one size has to be right in both places.
Is Panache swimwear good for a large bust?
That is what it is designed for. The range starts at a D cup rather than ending there, and the construction is bra construction: a firm band, an underwire on the breast root, three-part cups and side panels tall enough to stop spill. Straps adjust the fit rather than holding the weight.
Should I size down in Panache swimwear?
Only on the band, and only if you are between sizes. Swim fabric relaxes once it is wet, so a band that feels merely comfortable when dry will feel loose in the water. Take the smaller band, wear it on the loosest hook at first, and keep your usual cup.
How do I care for Panache swimwear?
Rinse in cool fresh water as soon as you are out, before it dries, then hand wash in cool water with a mild wash. Press the water out in a towel rather than wringing, dry flat out of direct sun, and never use a dryer or a radiator. Store the cups nested rather than folded.
